Born from a Need. Built for a Better Way.

The Medaca story began in the early 2010s, during the first wave of Canada’s workplace mental health crisis. Dr. Richard Guscott, a respected Canadian psychiatrist, and Chris Anderson, a senior bank executive and global mental health advocate, saw a critical gap: employees struggling with mental health concerns were waiting too long for care — and too often falling through the cracks.

Driven by the desire to create real, lasting change, Richard and Chris joined forces to develop TeamCare — a groundbreaking model focused on early intervention and rapid, expert mental health care. Their vision was simple yet powerful: help employees return to health and work as quickly and safely as possible, without the delays that were hindering recovery.

In a country where typical wait times for psychiatric care could stretch 6 to 12 months, Medaca’s promise of swift, coordinated care was a game-changer. What began with just two psychiatrists quickly grew into a national network of the best mental health professionals in Canada. From employers and insurers to third-party administrators, Medaca became the trusted partner for businesses facing the rising challenge of workplace mental illness.
