The 2023 Canadian Clinical Guidelines for Alcohol Use Disorder are redefining expectations for treatment and compliance, creating new challenges for disability adjudication. While the guidelines discourage antidepressant use in active AUD and recommend anti-craving medications as first-line treatment, these therapies remain inconsistently applied in practice.
This disconnect raises important questions about treatment compliance, recovery, and entitlement assessment. This session explores the impact of evolving clinical standards on disability claims and provides practical guidance for adjudicators, case managers, and medical consultants.
